Fit for a Fierce Little Princess
My Daughter, Emmitt, has wanted bunk beds for a little over a year and we thought her 6th birthday was a perfect time to finally gift them to her. Of course, that prompted a whole room refresh. She is just like me in so many ways and we really had a lot of fun putting this room together. I have always loved a good home project and always feel so much pride and accomplishment when I make a space over. She has totally picked up that trait from me and its so fun to see her show off her creative side and help create the “big (still little) girl” place she was dreaming of. I did not let her go completely (I’m a little bit of a control freak) but I brought her choices when it came to her beds, bedding, rug and curtains and let her make the final call. She loved it!
To start, we said goodbye to her old bed and rocking chair (sad day) to make room for the new furniture. I kept the same paint colors on the walls and ceiling, but changed pretty much everything else. Her dresser is an antique from her grandmother that she used when she was a little girl so of course we kept it, but repainted with gray chalk paint and up graded the hardware to freshen it up. From there we found these fun vinyl stickers from Etsy and made the accent wall with all the little gold hearts. I love this option because they are really easy and inexpensive to apply, but are also easily removed without damaging the wall if she gets tired of it.
After that is was time to decorate!!! We got a new rug, beds, bedding, wall art, and created the most precious little reading nook. I tried my best to get everything within a reasonable budget. I always love a good deal anyway but wanted to keep in mind that this is a kid’s room that will be lived in and messed up over and over again. I wanted to make her (and my inner little girl’s) dream room that she loved, but also didn’t break the bank. I’m so pleased with the way it turned out and, most importantly, Emmitt is thrilled.
I tried to link everything that I could. Please let me know if I missed anything. XOXO!
