Kitchen Reno
Our little kitchen has come a long way since moving in, in 2014 and I am really loving the finished product. When we first looked at this home during our house search this place immediately felt like home. We loved the layout, the neighborhood and the yard (big enough to put a pool in was a must for me), but the kitchen was a serious disappointment, but a little renovation didn’t scare us so we jumped all in and bought this house. We did our first renovation a little less than a year after moving in. We painted the cabinets, added boxes to the top and trim above and below to make them look more custom, built a new cabinet around the refrigerator, moved the microwave into the kitchen island and installed a range hood. Here are some before and afters from the first reno…
We weren’t quite ready to replace the counter tops and back splash(mostly because of the budget) but always knew they would be replaced in the future. I finally talked Rip into finishing those things this year. I’m actually kind of glad we didn’t do it all at once because the trends and my personal tastes have changed a bit over the last 5 years and am now really happy with all of my selections. In a addition to the new counter tops and backsplash, we also decided to switch out the hardware and pendant lights, upgrade our sink and faucet (Rip’s must have) and had a new absolutely gorgeous white oak island custom built (that one was my dream). The construction took about 2 1/2 weeks which was a dream compared to the 6 week renovation our first go around about five years ago. Here is the Finished product…
Along the way, I shared the progress and got lots of questions about colors, finishes and sources so I thought it would be helpful to put everything in one place for anyone of you out there that might want a little inspiration.
Paint/Stain
Kitchen Island: The Material is White Oak with Sherwin Williams Winter White Stain SW 3131-K from the Wood Classics Interior Oil Stain Collection.
Cabinets: We matched the existing trim color in our home which is an off-white. I believe it is very close to Sherwin Williams’ Antique White.
Walls: Cloud White OC-130 by Benjamin Moore. Its a soft creamy white that we have all through our house. Its bright and nice but soft enough against our trim so it doesn’t look yellow.
Counter Tops/ Backsplash
Counter Top: Quartz Eternal Calcutta Gold. We went with quartz because its beautiful and durable. I wanted mostly white with a little veining to bring in the beige and grays in my home and the Eternal Calcutta Gold is EXACTLY that! We love them.
Backsplash: I went with Floor and Decor Carrara White Polished Marble Tile. Floor and Decor is super affordable and has a lot of great options. I would highly suggest going in person and not buying anything off of their online photos though. This tile looks completely different in person.
Grout: Floor and Decor Frost (77). I wanted the grout to blend and not stand out as too white or too dark.
Hardware
I must have ordered 10-12 different options. Finding the perfect gold hardware that felt nice and heavy but didn’t break the bank was tough. After at least a month of searching I settled on these and I love them.
Knobs: Freestone 1-1/4 Inch Square Cabinet Knob
Pulls: Freestone 5 Inch Center to Center Cabinet pull
Sink/Faucet
This was Rip’s must have and I didn’t fight it because I have always love a farm sink. I did a lot of research on what would be best and found that Fireclay is that way to go because it is strong and durable. We added the gold faucet and sink flange to compliment our new hardware.
Sink: Kraus Turino 33-in x 18.25-in White Single Bowl Tall (8-in or Larger) Undermount Apron Front/Farm Sink. This sink has gotten great reviews on multiple sites and is also reversible. Depending on your style you can choose the rounded apron front (what I chose) or flip it for a more more modern squared off apron front. Also, it was in the middle price wise which made me feel like I was getting a good price without “cheaping” out.
Faucet: Kraus Oletto Pull Down Kitchen Faucet
Sink Flange: To add a little extra detail I also added a Delta Faucet 72030-CZ Disposal and Flange Stopper, Kitchen, Champagne Bronze and I love it.
The Details
I think I covered everything. If you have any questions or I missed something never hesitate to ask.
