Girl... Shave Your Face!

It’s TRUE, I shave my entire face! About a year ago I started to see some of the bloggers I follow talking about shaving their face. I have had a dermaplaning facial before, which is essentially the same thing just more intense, but didn’t think it was a treatment I could do at home by myself. I thought, for sure, if I started shaving at home regularly, I would grow a man beard. But, after seeing it over and over I decided to give it a chance and guess what… NO BEARD! Just smooth, extra exfoliated skin. When I mentioned this to a few girlfriends, they informed me this is old news and they have been doing it for years. I guess facial shaving never really came up in conversation naturally, ha! So, maybe you already know about this AMAZING exfoliation method. If so, GREAT! However, if you’re late to the party like me, I have decided it is my full responsibility to share my experience!

I try to do this once a week, usually while my kids are in the bathtub playing (momma’s all about a multi-task), and here is how:

1.      First, and INCREDIBLY important, I always pull my hair back and put on a little headband to keep the little hairs around by hairline pulled away from my face.

2.      I splash a little warm water on my face and lather with some of my normal face wash, Kiehls Ultra Facial Cleanser .

3.      Once I have a good layer of face wash, I then shave VERY carefully (especially around my eyebrows), in a downward motion while rinsing the razor off a few times as I go. I have used a few brands and the Schick Silk Touch-ups are my favorite.

4.       I usually do this in the evening, so I follow up shaving with my night time skin products. Right now, I am using Kiehls Midnight Recovery Eye Cream around my eyes, the Kiehls Midnight Recovery Concentrate Facial Oil all over for extra hydration in the winter and finish with my nighttime moisturizer Kiehls Multi-Corrective Cream.

I would caution to go slow and be very careful, especially when you first start. I have cut myself a few times, and have definitely given my eyebrows a little extra trim they didn’t need (thank God for my eyebrow pencil) when I get careless and try to rush!

I will say, the results from an actual dermaplaning facial are much more beneficial when you really break it down. A professionally trained esthetician uses a sharper blade that takes a true layer of dead skin off. However, this is a great way to maintain beautiful and radiant skin without breaking the bank. After I shave, my skin feels so smooth, my products seem to absorb better into my skin and my makeup goes on better as well. If you’ve done this before, decide to try it, have questions, or have any insight, feel free to leave a comment! I would love to see what other crazy exfoliation strategies are out there, or to answer any ‘face shaving’ questions you may be wondering about!
